The Art of Romantic, Living Gardens.
Romantic Naturalism™
Rooted in Romance. Designed as Living Communities.
At Luke Gevaux Garden Design, I create small to medium-sized gardens across Buckinghamshire, and the surrounding area, that balance beauty with ecology, structure with softness, and romance with resilience.
Inspired by the enduring character of the English garden and informed by modern naturalistic planting, each design is shaped around you, how you live, what you love, and how you wish to feel in your space.
The result is a garden that doesn’t just look beautiful on day one, but grows richer, more harmonious and more alive with each passing season.
What Is Romantic Naturalism™?
Romantic Naturalism™ is my design philosophy — combining the enduring beauty of the English garden with ecologically intelligent planting design.
Gardens are composed as living communities of plants that support one another, creating depth, resilience and long-term harmony.
Abundant, layered planting with seasonal flow
Plant communities that reduce maintenance over time
Wildlife-rich, biodiverse environments
Timeless structure softened by romantic detail
Why Choose Luke Gevaux Garden Design?
A Garden Designed Around You and Nature
Every garden begins with listening.
Whether you long for a peaceful retreat, a space for entertaining, or a sanctuary alive with birds and pollinators, your garden should support your lifestyle while sitting gently within its environment.
Through careful site study - soil, aspect, architecture and surrounding landscape - I design gardens that feel as though they have always belonged. Never imposed. Always grounded.
Plant Communities — The Heart of Romantic Naturalism™
I design planting schemes as living communities — layered groups of plants chosen not only for their beauty, but for how they coexist and support one another over time.
By understanding how plants grow, compete and collaborate in nature, I create combinations that:
Knit together to suppress weeds
Protect and enrich the soil
Provide habitat for beneficial insects and wildlife
Deliver season-long interest and textural depth
Require less intervention than traditional, high-input borders
Each layer has a role — structural anchors, seasonal performers, and ground-weavers that soften and connect the composition.
The effect is abundant yet considered. Romantic yet resilient.
Beauty emerging from harmony, not hard work.
Seamless, Contextual Design
Gardens should feel rooted in place.
I draw on the architectural language of your home and the character of the Buckinghamshire landscape to create designs that sit naturally within their setting. Materials, layout and planting are chosen to ensure the finished garden feels like an organic extension of your home — cohesive, balanced and timeless.
Sustained by Nature
Romantic Naturalism™ is inherently ecological.
Where possible, I prioritise locally sourced and environmentally responsible materials — reclaimed stone, sustainably harvested timber and low-impact construction methods.
Planting is selected for longevity and suitability, reducing waste, excessive watering and unnecessary maintenance.
This is design that respects both beauty and biodiversity.
Professional Expertise
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Garden Design from the British Academy of Garden Design.
My academic training, combined with ecological planting knowledge and practical experience, ensures each project is guided by both rigorous design principles and a sensitive understanding of nature.
You benefit from a garden that is not only beautiful, but intelligently composed and built to endure.
