The Urban Garden
This project transforms a small, urban garden into a sleek, sustainable outdoor room, with straight lines and minimal materials.
Hardscape
Large sandstone slabs from a local quarry form the primary paving, paired with rendered walls in a matching hue for seamless visual cohesion.
Sculptural Seating & Planting Pocket
A monolithic sandstone block (1900 × 900 mm) sits beneath an existing tree as shaded seating, echoed by an identical planting pocket carved into the paving.
Discreet Lighting
Strip lights and sunken uplights are recessed beneath walls, subtly accentuating textures, materials and planting after dusk.
Calming Plant Palette
A restrained palette of blue, purple and pink hues—featuring Bearded Iris ‘Benton Nigel’, Allium hollandicum ‘Purple Sensation’, Geranium ‘Rozanne’ and ornamental grasses (Stipa tenuissima, Stipa gigantea)—adds seasonal interest and softens the architectural framework.
The carefully balanced materials, lighting and planting create a serene, sculptural space that’s both functional and visually striking.
