Design Fees & What to Expect

Every garden is different, and each design is shaped around your home, your space and how you want your garden to feel.

The guide below offers an indication of typical design fees to help you understand the level of investment involved in creating a romantic, living garden rooted in nature. A tailored proposal is always provided following your consultation.

Typical Design Investment

Planting Design (Small to Medium Gardens)

From £900

Most planting-only projects typically fall between £1,200 – £2,400+, depending on the size and complexity of the garden.

This service is ideal if you are happy with your existing layout but would like a beautifully composed planting scheme designed as living communities of plants that grow more harmonious with time.

Full Garden Design (Small to Medium Gardens)

From £1,800

Most full design projects typically range between £2,500 – £4,500+.

This includes concept design, master planning, planting design and detailed drawings to guide the creation of your garden. Each design is shaped through Romantic Naturalism™ — blending romantic English character with ecological intelligence and naturalistic planting.

Larger or More Complex Gardens

From £4,500+

For larger sites, challenging levels, or projects involving multiple areas or structures, fees are quoted on a bespoke basis following an initial consultation.

What’s Included

Design fees typically include:

  • Initial consultation and site visit

  • Measured survey and site analysis

  • Concept designs and visual direction

  • Detailed Master Plan

  • Planting design using living plant communities

  • Planting care guide/schedule

  • Specification drawings and materials guidance

  • Design support during the build phase (quoted separately)

You’ll receive clear documentation to help your chosen landscaper bring the design to life with care and accuracy.

Design Support, Site Visits & Time on Site

Design fees cover the creative development of your garden and the production of detailed drawings and planting plans.

Time spent beyond the design phase — such as additional site visits during the build, planting supervision, setting out on site, project management support, or extra design meetings — is charged separately.

This allows you to shape the level of support you receive to suit your project and budget, whether you’d like light-touch guidance or more hands-on involvement.

As a guide:

  • On-site support / planting days are charged by the day or half day

  • Additional meetings or design support are charged by the hour

  • Travel time beyond 30 minutes from Buckingham, Buckinghamshire is chargeable

All time-based fees are agreed in advance, with clarity and transparency, so you always know what to expect.

This flexible approach ensures you receive the level of care and attention your garden deserves, without paying for support you don’t need.

All fees are confirmed in writing before work begins, ensuring complete clarity and ease at every stage of the process.

Typical Build Investment

As a general guide, many clients invest between £8,000 – £25,000+ on the construction and planting of their garden, depending on size, complexity and level of detailing.

I’m always happy to talk through realistic budget ranges at consultation stage, ensuring your ambitions and investment feel well aligned.

A Thoughtful Investment in Your Garden

My approach prioritises longevity, ecological integrity and thoughtful design. This is not about quick makeovers or short-term fixes, but about creating gardens that mature beautifully over time — growing richer, more harmonious and more alive with each passing season.
